“I am so grateful for the opportunity provided to me by the 19th District Internship Association to work with Congressman Platts and his incredible staff this summer. Through this internship, I have gotten to fully experience the duality of Congress that I have read about and studied in the classroom. I have gained insight into the policy-oriented goals during my time in the D.C. office, as well as experiencing the value of the role of public service in the Adams County District Office. It has been a truly remarkable ten-week internship that I would never have been able to partake in without the help of this incredible association.”

History:

The 19th District Internship Association was created in 1977 as a community involvement, good government initiative to provide financial sponsorship for college students from the 19th Congressional District of Pennsylvania to work in the offices of our Congressman each summer. Internships give students a chance to be a part of government in action, with opportunities to attend hearings, draft response to constituent letters and research issues, as well as to provide staff support services.

Since its inception in 1977, the Internship Program has been extremely successful in annually sending a significant number of enthusiastic students to Washington for a first-class, first-hand experience with their government.

To support the program, Association members are invited to a spring reception in the 19th District each spring to introduce the interns, new Association members, and guests to the current Association members. Occasionally the Association also organizes a bus trip to Washington for an exciting mix of business and pleasure. Association members and guests are invited to attend at their own expense.

The 19th Congressional District of Pennsylvania is comprised of Adams and York counties and parts of Cumberland County. The 19th District Internship Association is not supported by the U.S. House of Representatives.

The 19th District Internship Association is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Donations are tax deductible.
